Flanged threaded timber inserts for timber and panel applications
These self-tapping flanged inserts feature both an internal and external thread, making them ideal for creating strong, reusable fixing points in timber, particle board, MDF and other panel materials. The external thread cuts and embeds securely into the surrounding material, while the internal thread accepts a matching machine screw or bolt. The flanged head provides additional bearing support at the material face to help improve pull-through resistance. Selected inserts are supplied with a screwdriver slot to assist with installation. Also commonly known as timber shield nuts or skein nuts.
Flanged Timber Skein Inserts key features
- Helps reduce timber splitting during installation
- High pull-out resistance for secure fastening
- Flanged head improves face bearing and pull-through support

Recommended Material Thickness Guide
For best results, install in timber or panel materials with a minimum thickness of approximately 85% of the insert body length and a recommended maximum thickness of around twice the insert body length. Thinner materials may not provide adequate support beneath the insert, while thicker materials may benefit from a longer insert for improved holding strength.
